No Landscape Fullscreen problem

Post by NubCake »

I have to say i was really happy when i saw the new version and in changelog that Landscape no fullscreen is fixed, so ofcourse i installed the new version asap and i have to say it really works as it should, but because it does work as it should, there are some problems, i will only point out one, but there are many problems in other apps too, so i think i might just disable that option, cuz i think this cant be fixed =/

Here's the problem in SMS application (using SGS):
Before:                                                                                                                 Now:

Yeah, it works like in portrait view, thats why the header is displayed, which causes troubles in a lot of apps :s

I cant add people in Contacts eather (when in landscape).

Hello
I understand your problem, and that's precisely the reason why "no landscape fullscreen" option was implemented the way it was. However the previous implementation was a bad hack, and caused more problems than it solved, so I decided to go back to a "normal" implementation as it's done in other keyboards. Sorry for the bad consequences but keeping two different behaviours in parallel with an option would make the app too difficult to maintain.

Shoot, just what I didn't want to hear. This feature was the reason I used Smart Keyboard as it allowed me to see incoming IM's while I am typing. Is there any way I can downgrade to 4.3 or get an .apk of that version? Otherwise I guess I'll have to look for another keyboard, which I really didn't want to do, I've been really happy with Smart Keyboard up to 4.4.

Thanks,
Devin

You can just use the previous beta (same as market 4.3.1 version)

Wow thanks! Strangely enough, I tried 4.3.1-beta and it seemed to be implementing no landscape fullscreen in the same way as 4.4 with the same results. So I wondered about 4.3.0-beta and found it in that same directory. It is working great. Thank you so much. I love the app. It surprises me that the other popular keyboards don't just copy your features because SK seems to have all the features you could need and yet you've managed to implement them all in a common sense way. So kudos. Quite impressive compared to other keyboards I've tried. For now I'll stick with 4.3.0. Maybe my next phone will have a larger screen and I can get away with the new implementation.

This is off-topic but I thought I'd mention-- the only bug I've ever found in SK that's been persistent since I started using the keyboard (about v. 3.10) is where when I'm typing in landscape (no fullscreen of course ;) ) and then send the message, often times when I turn the phone back to portrait the last typed word from my previous message shows up in the text field. I've gotten used to it but when you're not expecting it you can end up starting new messages with the last word from the previous message without realizing it. ;) I was just curious about that-- maybe its just me that's seeing it (I'm on a fairly obscure Kyocera Zio).

Thanks again cyril! Keep up the good work.

Also, do you take donations ?

I have a big problem in landscape mode, too. When trying to answer a thread in www.android-hilfe.de via the standard web browser which was pre-installed on a Samsung Galaxy S2, I cannot see at all what I am typing. I have tried both modes (full screen or not) and it didn't make any change. As soon as I start typing, the text entry window "jumps" to the top of the screen and I can only type then without seeing what I type. The same effect happens when I try to change my text and click into it, as soon as I start typing the window jumps away. This is very annoying. I have installed the latest update. Can you please try to verify this problem and let me know how to solve it?
Thanks and best regards,

Strange, this kind of problem should be fixed with the latest version, at least in fullscreen mode. I will try to reproduce the problem on a Galaxy S2.

Cyril, do you have any news for me? This problem is really unnerving and makes using Smart Keyboard with www.android-hilfe.de really a pain. Please try to post anything on this forum or try to answer any post (you may have to create an account first) to reproduce the problem. If it works for you, please let me know what settings you use, maybe there is something wrong in my settings. Please help as soon as you can.
Thanks,
