I now longer get the list of options after dictating. I did in the beginning, but it stopped. Now it just inserts what it thought it heard. I have checked and unchecked the box.

"no longer" means something changed recently, and it's certainly not Smart Keyboard, as the code related to voice input has not changed for months. Maybe an update of "Google Search" app broke something?
