Accents with hardware keyboard?

Post by spidernik84 »

Hello, i've been using the pro version of your software with much satisfaction for about eight months, it's working wonderfully.
I'm using a Motorola Milestone, and sometimes i prefer the hardware keyboard.
Since i'm Italian, i often need to put accents on the letters. Is it possible to change the default behavior of the long press from "repeat" to "show alternative letters"? Or, maybe, allow the user to add the accent pressing the vocal and then alt+symbol like it did on my old q-tek?

Thanks for your support! :)

Multi-language support of the hard keyboard is minimalist at the moment, improvements are planed for the future.
By the way how do you usually choose the accents with the long press? Is there a popup window on the screen or what?

Hey thanks for the fast answer. Yeah I keep the vocal button pressed and I see, togheter with the alt character, the accentuated vocals! It would be fine to implement this solution on the hw keyboard I suppose, although I'd prefer the "vocal then alt + symbol" combo. See you :)

Hi cyril,
here I am again with the request!
I see that your keyboard is getting better every day and I congratulate :).
In the recent times I've been using quite often the hardware keyboard (mainly on gtalk due to the software keyboard hiding the chat history). I really miss the long-press-for-accents feature that is present on the stock Motorola Milestone.
I can confirm you that it works like this: when you long press a vocal, a little box pops up allowing you to choose between alternate letters, even with the d-pad. This function is very useful, if not essential, on languages having accents and umlauts like Italian, French, German, Spanish and others. In my opinion, it should be possible to choose the long-press behaviour between "repeat key" and "show alternatives". As for me, this function would make your software just more than perfect.

Thank you.

It's not trivial to implement this popup, but it's planed, I'll do it

I just got the HTC Desire Z with the physical keyboard and I've seen raving reviews for the SKPro for Android.
So i bought It along with the French plugin for SK Pro.
I really am Impressed, but i would to like to have access to accentuated letters somewhere on the keyboard (QWERTY) because there are words that are not included in the french dictionnary
Here are some examples : (Île, Évidemment, À bon entendeur, etc.). The same goes for other words even when they are not capitalized.
The pop-up suggestions for accentuated letters when long pressing the voyell keys that came with the regular HTC keyboard was fine with me, but it was the french dictionnary or word suggestions that i couldn't get.

Keep up the great work you do a very fine job ( and excuse my approximate English).

I will try to add accents with the hard keyboard (if it was easy it would be done already ;) ), however these are not good examples, as if auto-capitalization is on (did you disable it?) and you type "ile" for instance, it will be converted to "Île" even if "île" appears in the suggestion bar. But indeed in other situations typing the accent manually can be required.

Thanks. I don't have any problem beleiving you.

I've tried finding out where that woulb be ( Réglage généraux Majuscule) or Préduiction de texte) but did not really find where that Auto-capiyalisation is.

I kind of noticed too that sometimes, there are no suggestions-predictions for words with accentuated letters when they are the first word of a sentence.

Thanks a million for all your hard work Cyril. Merci beaucoup.
