cannot get the app to take over from the default KB

I've read the user guide regarding activating the app. Nothing works.
I'm running the pro version on a tab running 4.1.1.

Any ideas on how I can turn this thing on? I have it on my RAZR, and I had a similar problem. Couldn't turn it on for days until 1 day I got a notification in the status area that let me select the app to turn it on.
