Physical keyboard & AutoText

I only use the physical keyboard on my Droid Pro, and the main thing I want to use on SK is the AutoText feature. Also, I do not need to see any word suggestions as I'm typing. However, if I turn off the "Show suggestions" setting then AutoText stops working. Is there a way to use AutoText without having anything pop up on my screen? I need as much screen space as possible.
