Smart Keyboard Forum

How do I enable the keyboard so I can use it on my rooted HTC Thunderbolt? I am not running a custom ROM. I have installed the keyboard. I can go to menu-settings-language & keyboard and enable it BUT still don't see it for use in my text messages.
Any help would be appreciated.
