Autoinsert word by pressing space-bar

Hi there!
I just started to use the smart keyboard and am really happy with it's features (especially the gestures...).
There's just one problem I'm experiencing:
Whenever I press the space-bar it changes the word i actually typed to the word that is selected in the "proposal-box".
I'm using the german keymap. When i type the word "save" e.g. and press the space-bar it changes it automatically to "sagen" because "save" is obviously not known in the german dictionary.
This behaviour could sometimes be pretty handy but for my purposes it almost always leads to misspellings.
I know that this can be undone by pressing the "delete"-key immediately after the word has been changed but it happens pretty frequently that I recognize the automatic correction after I've allready typed some other words and have to manually navigate back to the according word and correct it which is not exactely convenient...
Is there an option to turn this feature off like in the standard keyboard-app? Unfortunately I haven't found one so far...
Thanks & best regards,
Mik
