Keypad test was done in the Android default text messaging application by selecting the text input field where you select who the text message is addressed to when sending a new text message. Let me know if you need any other details, things to do and capture logcat, etc.

So, you trigger the keypad with 123 then <>, and you don't see a difference between the two layouts?
The only difference should be that 1,2,3 and 7,8,9 rows are inverted; what do you see?
