How to type unusual words?

Post by Pinmac1 »

Downloaded Smart Keyboard a couple of days ago and have been extremely impressed so far with how customisable it is and also the very clear instructions for it on this website. I will be buying the pro version shortly but would like to find the answer to a couple of questions I have first. Firstly, how do you type unusual words? I am using the compact qwerty keyboard and I want to type "Dillo" as there is a new game on the market called Dillo Hills. I am being offered choices such as "Dillon" but not "Dillo". If I carry on it selects "Dillon" as that was highlighted. I can backspace to take away the "n" but that is very clumsy. I can, of course, put it in the dictionary but don't want to do this for every unusual word.

The second problem is that I entered my postcode into Auto Text as "pos" but when I type "pos" I get "post". Any help gratefully received.

Very simple. Either switch to full QWERTY (I have a swipe gesture to toggle) or click on the XT9 button to the right of the space bar. This turns off predictive text - you have to press twice to get the second letter. Now you can slowly enter Dillo or whatever word. Once you finish typing, press & hold the word as it shows up above the keyboard. You'll see a message like Dillo: saved This means the word has now been entered into your dictionary. Now turn XT9 back on and Dillo should come up next you type.

Same thing for doing "pos" - enter it manually using full QWERTY or turning off XT9 in compact QWERTY and save to your dictionary. Alternatively you can go into settings and add words directly, if there are several unusual words you know you'll be using.

Great, thanks so much, Nick. That was the last piece of the puzzle. Off to the Market to buy Pro.
