T9 Word

I am not too savvy on how one would implement such a feature, but from those I've seen on the marketplace, there is much to be improved upon. I don't imagine it would be terribly difficult to create such a feature, considering the basis which is already established in the Smart Keyboard PRO app.
The best (free) T9 app that I have found is the Handcent Keyboard plug-in for the Handcent SMS app. It has a problem with a limited dictionary, and the inability to use multi-tap input. But baring those facets, it is a good example of the type of portrait-mode keyboard I've been waiting for.
[I believe there are proprietary keyboards for Android that implement T9 word, such as that found on the HTC Touch. (may not be accurate, as I am recalling this from a vague memory.) However, I tried to install the IME on a Motorola Droid, and it Force-Closes every time.]
