Armenian Language: Correct Layouts

Post by feleq »

Hello,

I highly appreciate your work, and should say that “Smart Keyboard Pro” is the best keyboard that I have tested so far. It has all the features that are needed for comfortable work and communication on a mobile device.

I am Armenian and it was a nice surprise to see Armenian included in the list of supported languages. It deserves special thanks from all of Armenian users of Android. However, the keyboard layout is totally unusable, sadly. It is completely different from the standard that is used by Armenians, and many letters are hidden so “deep” in the layout that everyday use of your keyboard becomes impossible. I understand that maybe you didn’t have a real experience with Armenian language, and I want to offer my help to correct your Armenian keyboard and make it the best keyboard for Armenian users.

What I propose is the most used layout in Armenia, as close to the desktop equivalent as it is possible. I can e-mail you an Excel worksheet with detailed layouts, with both symbols and corresponding UTF-16 codes, as soon as you want. As Armenian language have much more letters than most of Latin alphabets, I have prepared two versions of layouts – with 3 and 4 rows. It is just similar to the two versions of Russian keyboards that you already have in the Keyboard Smart. The 3-row layout is the preferable one (anyway, for smartphone screens up to 5"), if the implementation of both is impossible. It would be much appreciated by a large number of Armenian users if you replace the old version with this one in your application, as this is practically the best layout for Armenian language.

For now, I am using “Multiling Keyboard”, solely because its Armenian layout is the most user-friendly one in the market; it was created based on the suggestions of an Armenian blogger. But it lacks the rich features, good look and overall polish of “Smart Keyboard Pro”. Also, the layout could be better. By adding good Armenian support, you will show a readiness to listen to your users worldwide, you will be one step closer to the perfect keyboard for Android, and we will have the tool we always needed. It is a win-win situation. From my part, I will spread the word as much as I can, recommending your application to every Armenian user that I can get in contact with, via FB and other means.

Looking forward to your positive reply :)

Best regards,
Hayk Falakyan.

Am I wrong, or I will not find here any kind of customer orientation or attention to feedbacks? I could just leave this place at once, stop using your product and share my "positive" experience with everyone. If I'm asking the wrong kind of question in the wrong place, please let me know. With best regards etc.

I've uploaded the datasheet with detailed layouts for 3 and 4 rows, and also the corresponding UTF-16 codes.

Please reply. There is not a single good Armenian keyboard available in the market, yours will be the best.

Thanks!
