Numeric Fields

Post by dpassen1 »

When a field is designated as 'numeric' (i.e.: Enter a pin or a number), some keyboards including the Android default will immediately go to a view where the numbers are easily accessed. SmartKeyboard Pro doesn't yet do this, but instead defaults to the normal view where you must either strike the "?123" key or long press on the top row keys. It would be nice if behavior was changed.

Hi
yes it's clear;) Do you have an example of app / use case in which you expect this ?

http://www.androidzoom.com/android_appl ... d_vsp.html has an input PIN text box. With Android default keyboard, as well as Swype, it automatically selects an appropriate view for entering only numeric data.

Or when you add a new a contact's phone number, or edit a existing one. This would be a nice feature to have.

Numeric Fields

Post by dozegon »

Hello. Thanks for a great keyboard and for all the work you are doing (updates) to improve it!

I strongly agree about the "numeric fields" post. It would be super helpful for the keyboard to default to the number screen (or even a number keypad) when typing numbers while:

-entering times in the calender
-entering times (reminders) in such applications as Astrid
-entering phone numbers while editing contacts.

It would even be a grand start if you prevented the screen from switching back to ABC screen (after using the 123 screen) after the hour entry is made and before the minute entry. I hope this makes some sense.

Thanks very much for your consideration.

That makes sense, it will be in the next release (the keyboard will not switch automatically to alpha when editing numeric/phone/date fields)

It looks like the keyboard indeed switches over to the number and punctuation layout. Nice!

Do you have plans to create an even more abbreviated layout with just numbers and a few punctuations? The default android keyboard does this with a 4x4 grid and HTC_IME with a 5x4 grid. It makes it much easier to quickly type in numbers.
