As this is a common issue, it's better to dedicate a topic to this problem.
Symbols such as space or shift are not displayed properly on HTC Desire HD or Z (at least) due to a change HTC did in the Android framework. This issue is under investigation and hopefully fixed soon.
Skins do not display properly on HTC Desire HD / Z
