I noticed that the problem is when I try to scroll up as the up arrow, hits the redline, and shifts to recall hidden letters. This happens in all modes. However, there is no problem when typing letters.

The Up arrow key in the phone/number mode when pressed sometimes moves me into letters or flips me into the next field and they types letters.
