That feature works here on an HTC desire.
What doesnt works, is to keep pressed the shift button and then press multiple keys, it only capitalizes the first key.

Could it be possible to keep pressed the 123 key (Like the shift key) to be able to insert the alt symbol directly (multitouch)? Will lose the option to access the config from the keyboard, but will gain some speed typing.
