Well, I would almost rate this as a bug! You must be able to access accented characters (éèa) etc independent of language setting. This works on almost all other keyboards. If I am using the swedish keyboard and typing the word "éntre", how do I do it? You really shouldn't restrict this to...

I would find it extremely useful if one were able to switch between T9 and Qwerty keyboard in portrait mode, directly from the keyboard without having to change this in the input settings.
